It has just been revealed that when Prince William and Meghan Markle got married at Westminster Abbey back in 2011, they broke a tradition that dates back 350 years.

In her new book “The Duchess of Cambridge: How Kate Middleton Became A Future Queen,” Jessica Jayne revealed that William was the first member of the royal family to marry a “commoner” in over three centuries.

“All of those who have lambasted Kate and criticised her for being ‘common’ ate their words,” she wrote. “Back in the old days, a commoner marrying into royalty may just be a dream but times have changed, Kate would be the first commoner to marry a prince in 350 years.”

William and Kate did follow the royal tradition of getting permission to marry from Queen Elizabeth. After their engagement was announced, the Queen said that she was “delighted” by the news.

Kate has since gone on to have three children with William, and to become one of the most popular members of the British royal family. Harry also followed in his brother’s footsteps when he married “commoner” Meghan Markle in May of this year.

During William and Kate’s wedding, Harry said that he was “inspired” by them and that he “loved Kate like a sister.”

Princess Diana would undoubtedly be proud of their sons for following their hearts and marrying Kate and Meghan despite their “commoner” status. This just goes to show that she raised them to be caring, down to Earth young men!
