It’s always important to remember all of the brave men and women who have served our country to protect the rest of our freedoms. These men and women are from all walks of life and as a country we honor and celebrate them on this special day. Just for fun, however, we compiled a list of six famous military veterans that you may not know served our country.
Tom Selleck
Selleck was drafted during the Vietnam War, and he served in the 160th Infantry Regiment of the California National Guard from 1967-1973. It was only after he left the military that Selleck shot to fame in the show “Magnum P.I.”
Clint Eastwood
Eastwood is known as one of the most famous actors and directors in Hollywood today. Before he found fame, however, Eastwood was drafted to serve in the Korean War. During his time in the military, Eastwood was on board a Douglas Ad bomber when it crashed into the ocean. Both Eastwood and the pilot then had to swim three miles in order to survive.
Pat Sajak
Sajak has hosted “Wheel of Fortune” for thirty years, but before that, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While in the Army, Sajak served as a disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio.
Morgan Freeman
Freeman is best known for his roles in movies like The Shawshank Redemption and Driving Miss Daisy. When he was young, however, Freeman turned down a partial drama scholarship to Jackson State University in order to join the U.S. Air Force. He started out as an Automatic Tracking Radar Repairman, but his hard work quickly propelled him to the rank of Airman 1st Class.
Bea Arthur
She is best known today for her work in the 1980s sitcom “The Golden Girls,” but in her youth, Arthur joined the Women’s Reserve and drove trucks for the Marine Corps. In fact, she was one of the first women to join this elite program. Arthur was promoted from corporal to sergeant to staff sergeant before she was honorably discharged in 1945 so that she could marry another Marine.
Bob Barker
Barker spent decades hosting “The Price Is Right,” but before that, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He ended up becoming a fighter pilot, and after the war ended, he went back to school to get a degree in economics.
Thank you to all the veterans who have served our country!
