Last month, Garth Brooks revealed that he had a special surprise planned for his wife Trisha Yearwood at this week’s Country Music Awards (CMAs). Garth had written a new song for Trisha, calling it “maybe the most well-written thing I’ve ever had to lend my voice to. It’s beautiful.”

Garth feared that he would not get the chance to perform the song the way he wanted to: alone, onstage, singing directly to Trisha, who he wanted to hear it live for the first time.

“I won’t play it for anybody else because it’s a song, you’re not going to believe it’s written by guys, it’s a song about the strength of a woman. And for me, that’s Trisha,” Garth said.

The CMAs producers were not too happy about making time in their show for a song that they had not even heard before.

“They’ve been very sweet. They kinda came back and said, ‘Hey look, something new that’s a ballad probably doesn’t work for us,'” Garth said.

Thankfully, the country music star was able to pull a few strings!

During the CMAs on Wednesday night, Garth brought the house down when he performed “Stronger Than Me.” Garth looked directly at Trisha the entire time he sang, and she could not help but break down in tears.

Trisha confirmed before that she had not known what her husband had planned.

“I have no idea what’s going to happen,” she said.

Garth admitted afterwards that he had been nervous before performing.

“The closer I got, the more I thought it was a bad idea,” he said, “because she’s not a big surprise girl.”

It warms my heart to see how much these two love each other! We wish them many happy years to come!
