Hunter and Hope Madden had always wanted to be parents, but it seemed like that would never happen. They had tried fertility treatments and suffered three miscarriages. The first two miscarriages happened early in the pregnancies, but the last one they knew was a little boy. They had named him Owen and were excited to finally get to be parents.

That’s when they received the devastating news. At one of the sonograms, they found out that little Owen’s heart had quit beating. The couple’s world seemed to shatter. But they kept their faith. They were determined not to lose hope. Hunter even got a tattoo of a tree that turns into an anchor at the bottom. “The tree represents my family tree and the anchor represents God’s promise of love for us,” he said.

So when the couple found out that they were expecting yet again, they were cautiously optimistic. The baby was a little girl, but they couldn’t help but wait for the bad news. It had always happened before. But this time things were different. Baby Evelyn made it into this world perfect and healthy in every way. Her name even means “longed for.” And photographer Leilani Rogers was there to capture photographic memories of the entire event.

She even caught the moment where Hunter was overcome with emotion at finally seeing his rainbow baby. A rainbow baby is a baby that is born after a couple suffers from the loss of an unborn child.

The photo shows Hunter weeping with joy while he cradles his newborn daughter. He says he couldn’t believe that he was finally holding something so precious and so perfect.

Hunter says he could not be more thankful to finally be a father, and says that although it isn’t always possible to understand God’s plan when we’re hurting, we just have to keep our faith and know that He will always carry us through.

What a heartwarming and miraculous story. Be sure to share this story with your family and friends. It just might be the story they need to hear so they don’t give up hope themselves.
