Members of the United States military make huge sacrifices when they put their lives on the line for their country.

Their families end up making sacrifices as well, as they have to be separated from their deployed loved ones for long periods of time, not knowing if they will ever see them again.

Joshua Splinter is a family physician at the Texas Army National Guard reserve who has been deployed to the Port of Africa for the last five months.

He left behind his beloved wife Alice, who is also a doctor, who moved to another city with their children to finish her residency.

With Joshua gone, Alice had to juggle raising their children and helping them adjust to a new city while also working grueling hours as a doctor.

When Joshua learned that he was going to get to return to the states earlier than he had thought, he decided to take this opportunity to give his wife a surprise that she’ll never forget.

He kept communicating with his wife over the phone, pretending like he was still overseas when he was actually on his way home!

In the video below, Alice is under the impression that she’s about to meet a new patient.

Imagine her surprise when she walked into the examination room to see her husband sitting there!

“It took a second for me to take it in,” Alice said of the moment. “I honestly almost passed out.”

We want to thank all members of the U.S. military and their families for the sacrifices that they make for us! Watch the heartwarming reunion below!
