Meet Leo and Ruth Zanger, a couple from Quincy, Illinois who have been married for 61 years. They welcomed their 100th grandchild in 2015, and that number has since grown to 102!

“The good Lord has just kept sending them,” Leo said. “We could start our own town.”

As of 2015, the Zangers had 12 children, 53 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild! Leo and Ruth were married on April 18, 1956, and they have been inseparable ever since.

Linda, their oldest child, is 58 while their youngest, Joe, is 31. Their other children are Debbie, Donna, David, Greg, Daniel, Mike, Steve, Chuck, Matt, and Ernie.

As you can imagine, family get togethers can be a bit hectic!

“Everyone takes their turn (in helping with food), and they all try and outdo each other. We are always getting together for something,” Donna explained.

Donna has been named the “family historian,” as they needed to appoint someone to keep track of all the birth records, phone numbers and anniversaries in the family.

“(Other family members) always say, ‘Since you already have all of the phone numbers, can you just text (or call) them and let them know about whatever the event is?’” she said.

Despite how big their family is, the Zangers have remained incredibly close.

“We’re all really close. We get together a lot,” said their grandson Austin. “There’s always a lot of interaction. We spend a lot of time with each other. I know there are a lot of families half of our size who only get together maybe once or twice a year.”

As for Leo and Ruth, they could not be happier about their brood!

“Birth is a miracle and to have a new one is just a wonderful thing,” Leo said.
