Two officers with the Boulder Police Department were out on patrol one day when they came upon a small animal in the middle of the road.

It was only when the officers got closer to the creature when they realized that it was a baby Northern Saw-Whet Owl.

The baby owl seemed lost, so one of the officers approached the animal and began to talk to her.

“Hey,” the deputy said to the owl. “What’s up?”

As soon as the police officer started talking to her, the baby owl began to twist her head around as if she understood her. This caused the deputy to laugh, and when she said “hi” for a second time, the owl’s eyes grew wide!

After the deputy stopped filming, the two officers managed to convince the owl to get off the road.

“A tiny owl with a catlike face, oversized head, and bright yellow eyes, the Northern Saw-whet Owl is practically bursting with attitude. It has a very sophisticated hearing due to vertically asymmetrical ears and different shape of ear openings,” the police department wrote in the video description. “These Owls hunt mainly at dusk and dawn and most often use the “sit and wait” tactic to drop down onto prey on the ground from low hunting perches. Maybe this little guy is trying to set a trap.”

“Our deputies were driving when they were stopped in their tracks by this young Northern Saw-Whet Owl. After some curious head twisting (on both sides) it flew safely away,” the police department added on Facebook.

The video has quickly gone viral, touching the hearts of people all over the world. Check it out below!
