Gavin Orlowski and his mom Erin were headed to a birthday party when they came across something that stopped them in their tracks. They were traveling down a busy highway in Grand Rapids, Michigan; a road they had been down multiple times.

The van in front of them threw a bag of what they thought was trash out the window, but that’s when they saw the bag moving. A terrified cat fled from the bag across speeding cars. Gavin immediately yelled for his mom to stop the car. He wasn’t about to let the scared cat get hurt if he could do something to stop it. Bravely, Gavin jumped out of the car and chased after the terrified cat.

By the time Gavin reached the creature, some 75 percent of its body was hanging over the edge of a bridge about to jump over the edge. Luckily, Gavin was able to scoop the kitty into his arms in just the nick of time. Back in the car, the cat let Gavin cuddle it close and help it calm down. He and his mom, after asking social media friends for a vet recommendation, headed to a local veterinarian to make sure the cat was okay.

Miraculously, the cat checked out okay. It had a few torn nails and a sore back, but would be just fine. As they were preparing to leave the vet and pay the bill, they got some unexpected news. Someone had seen Erin’s post on social media and called the vets office and generously paid the vet bill in full. Erin and Gavin couldn’t believe how lucky they were.

That’s when they decided it was simply fate and the cat needed to become part of their family. They named him Lucky and headed for home. At home, Lucky settled right in. He followed Gavin everywhere and the two formed an almost immediate bond. It’s like he knows that Gavin is the reason he’s alive. Gavin says he has always wanted to be a vet, but this has made him 100 percent sure that’s what he wants to do someday.

What an amazing story! If you agree, be sure to share this story with your family and friends. Lucky definitely earned his name.
