A video is going viral showing a Royal Marine who is suffering from the advanced symptoms of Parkinson’s disease have his life changed forever by a new piece of technology called Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS).

DBS is a piece of technology that creates synthetic dopamine, and it is a late-stage option for people with Parkinson’s who no longer see results from Levadopa-Carbidopa medication. DBS involves fine wires being inserted into parts of the brain that are then electrically stimulated.

Parkinson’s is a disease that includes more than just the physical symptoms that we see, such as shaking. It also includes many non-physical symptoms like loss of smell, bladder issues, depression, anxiety, sleeping issues and more. DBS is something that can improve tremor, rigidity, slow movement and walking problems.

In the video below, you’ll see the Royal Marine break down in tears as he regains control of his body. He then looks around the room at his family and says, “that deserves a round of applause.”

Social media users everywhere have found the video to be extremely powerful.

“My spouse is coping with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. his tremors still are mild, but his feeling of hopelessness is severe. I just showed him this, and it lifted his spirits today, Thank you!” one user wrote, with another adding, “After watching my grandfather struggle for countless years battling this disease I can’t explain how happy it makes me to see something is making a difference for others.”
