Any parent knows how difficult it can be to take a toddler out to a restaurant, as you never know when your child will suddenly start throwing a tantrum.

Courtney Pedigo found herself in this situation when she brought her 1 year-old daughter Harlynn to dinner at her local Olive Garden in Greensboro, North Carolina. All was going well until halfway through the meal, when Harlynn started to cry and fuss.

Courtney tried to calm her down, but Harlynn refused to sit still, doing everything she could to escape her booster seat and run around the restaurant.

“[Harlynn] did everything but sit in her high chair and eat her dinner like I picture in my dreams,” the mother recalled.

Courtney did not want to make a scene, so she called her waitress over and asked for a to-go box so that they could leave quickly and eat at home. She was stunned when the server, a 22-year-old woman named Nianna Rudder, said “No.”

Nianna made it clear that she had no intention of letting Courtney cut her meal short. She then performed an act of kindness for them that completely left Courtney in a state of “complete shock.” We really need more people like Nianna in the world!

“Girl, you will never truly know how appreciative I am for tonight,” Courtney said of Nianna. “I seriously admire you … I told my dad on our way home it has to take someone with a strong heart and mind to do what you do … Thank you for your amazing service and for being so kind to us all!”

Nianna doesn’t see her act of kindness as that huge a deal.

“I did what I would want for someone to do for me if I was in that situation. People need to be more compassionate with one another,” Nianna said. “Anyone with a heart would have done the same.”
