When parents take their child to daycare, they want to feel comfortable that their little boy or girl is being taken care of there. It’s every parents’ worst nightmare to learn that their child is actually being abused at the daycare center that they have come to trust.

This is the nightmare that a couple named Deirdre and Jonathan found themselves living last April. They were stunned when they got a phone call from the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF), who told them that they had received a very disturbing photo of their 6 month-old daughter Elora at daycare.

The image showed Elora “tied down” as she slept at the daycare center. Deirdre and Jonathan were horrified by this, and Deirdre refused to even accept that she was looking at her daughter in the photo. After a few minutes, however, Deirdre came to terms with the fact that it was her little girl who was laying face down in a crib, wrapped tightly in a sleep sack that was pulled back with a ponytail holder.

“[S]he was being put into a sleep sack with her arms inside it, and all the material gathered in back and tied up so she could not move her arms, then put down on her belly so she could not roll over,” Deirdre later recounted on Facebook. “I hope this never happens to another child, and I hope people are still brave enough to advocate for those who can’t protect themselves, even at risk to themselves. Take care of your babies.”
