An infamous alligator named Chubbs, who is known to enjoy spending his time around a golf course in Florida, was just spotted for the first time in two years.

Chubbs had not been seen on the Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Palmetto, Florida since 2016, so it came as somewhat of a surprise when he was spotted there this week. Golfer Sage Stryczny captured Chubbs on camera as the alligator walked on the grass about fifty feet away from him.

Sage explained that he was with his father when they “were about to hit off the tee on a par 3 and we saw him laying right on the green.”

“He took a lot of rests,” Sage said, adding that he thought Chubbs was on his way from a smaller pond to a larger pond. He concluded that “it was definitely a cool sight to see.”

Chubbs made the news when he was captured on camera on the course in 2016. He looked even bigger in that video when a grown man stepped into the shot, putting the size of the alligator in perspective.

“People have heard that he is out here and that is all they want to see so they will bring spectators to ride so somebody can get a picture,” golf course employee Wendy Schofield said at the time. “He doesn’t bother anybody and they don’t bother him, he’s like a mascot for the course, which is owned by Manatee County.”

Wendy added that Chubbs has been there “for a very, very long time, he’s not new at all.”

“There have been guesses that he’s 15 to 16 feet long,” she said. “The word has spread that this is a great place to come and play. He is the highlight, but we are worth the price too.”
