Last year, Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc on Texas, and countless first responders risked their lives to help the people who were left devastated by the storm. Afterwards, Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey dropped everything to let these brave first responders know just how grateful he is for all the help that they gave his home state.

McConaughey surprised the rescue workers with free turkey and bourbon!

“I’m Texas born and raised, so acknowledging the hard work and dedication of first responders in Houston is meaningful to me personally,” he said.

McConaughey spent a day personally delivering frozen turkey lunches and samples of Wild Turkey bourbon to first responders all over the city of Houston.

“Basically today is about saying thank you to these people that were all on the front line and got out there to rescue people first,” he said while visiting the Houston Fire Department.

“I am glad to make it to Houston to recognize how important these folks are,” he added.

McConaughey looked all too happy to spend his time thanking these brave Americans!

“Over the past year alone with the hurricanes in Puerto Rico, the Carolinas and Florida and the fires in California, the number of heroic men and women on the front lines of natural disasters is staggering,” the actor said in a press release of his home. “I am glad to make it to Houston to recognize how important these folks are.”

Houston’s Mayor Sylvester Turner thanked McConaughey for his generosity.

“”Honored to welcome him to our city and thank him for spending time and recognizing our [police officers, firefighters,] and 911 dispatchers for their service,” Turner said.
