Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant got the surprise of his life last week when his original wedding ring that had been missing since 1989 was found in an old couch by a resident of his state!

Jeff Maher called Bryant’s office to let them know that he had found the ring after he discovered it in an old couch. Maher had picked up the couch after seeing it on the side of the road outside the home of one of Bryant’s relatives.  Bryant and his wife Deborah had given the couch to one of her cousins in 1989, which is right around the time the future governor lost the ring.

The ring includes an inscription of Bryant’s initials as well as the couple’s Dec. 31, 1976 wedding date.

Bryant took to Twitter to celebrate the ring being found, writing, “My friend Jeff Maher found my original wedding ring from 1976 in an old couch. It had been lost since 1989. Thanks, Jeff!”

Social media users were charmed by this story and were happy that the ring was found.

“Congratulations on finding your wedding ring what a blessing after 29 years! You and your wife must be estactic what a great anniversary present for y’all this year!!!” one user wrote, another adding, “Great story, glad you got your ring back! And Jeff Maher did a mighty fine thing!”

We’re glad to see that Governor Bryant has his ring back! Try not to lose it again, Phil!
