A group of Good Samaritans are being hailed as heroes this week after they dropped everything to help after an ambulance crash in Hartford, Connecticut.

One of the Good Samaritans was Odane White, a soccer player on the Sporting Hartford FC team who was driving to work on Friday night when he saw a first responder was pinned under an ambulance that had rolled over onto it’s side.

“I could hear someone screaming,” Odane recalled. “Someone was underneath the ambulance and I quickly realized it was one of the paramedics.”

Two EMTS had just dropped a patient off at the hospital when a speeding vehicle ran a red light and slammed into their ambulance, which hit a third car before rolling over onto it’s side.

“It was really shocking to me the fact that he was trapped underneath,” Odane continued. “I ran in and started trying to lift the ambulance up, and a few people gathered and tried to help.”

Since ambulances weigh between 9,000 to 10,000 pounds, things were not looking good for the pinned EMT. Odane immediately pulled over and ran over to help, teaming up with other Good Samaritans to lift up the ambulance.

“In my head, I kept thinking this could be me or my brother so I just held it up until eventually we got him from underneath,” Odane said.

“The EMTs and Paramedics of AMR respond to emergencies for a living, it isn’t often that we find ourselves as the ones in need. We are extremely grateful to the multiple bystanders that stepped into help in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Their actions were heroic,” said manager with American Medical Response, AMR.

The two EMTs were taken to the hospital and released the next day in stable condition. The driver of the third car also received treatment for minor injuries.

“I hope everyone involved in the accident is doing okay,” Odane concluded.

God bless Odane and the other Good Samaritans who took action to save these EMTs who needed their help! Find out more about this harrowing rescue in the video below.
