Fans of the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” are in mourning this week after Peggy McCay, who played Caroline Brady on the show for 34 years, passed away last Sunday. She was 90 years-old.
The actress, who joined the cast of the soap opera in 1983 as the beloved matriarch, died of natural causes.
Our deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Peggy McCay, our dear Caroline Brady for more than three decades. https://t.co/QVwV5Roth3

“Our dearest Peggy McCay has left us,” McCay’s costar Deirdre Hall wrote on Facebook. “She was a friend, an activist and a real scrapper! I remember meeting her at the bedside of a dear, very ill friend. I backed her up as she ferociously took on doctors and nurses to make sure he had the very best care. She fought that hard for all her causes. Passionate and tireless. And how she loved being Caroline!”
McCay acted in both soap operas and prime time television, winning a prime time Emmy award for her guest role on “The Trials of Rosie O’Neil” in 1991. She also appeared on many other television shows, including “Cagney & Lacey,” “Love of Life,” “Maverick,” “LA Law,” “Cold Case,” and “Woman on the Run: The Lawrencia Bembenek Story.”
Though McCay retired from “Days of Our Lives” in 2016, she still appears in a few 2017 episodes.
