When a marriage ends in a divorce it isn’t always a failure. That’s what Codie LaChelle McPhate of Waller, Texas, said in a post that has now gone viral worldwide.

Codie took a photo of her dad mowing her mom’s lawn. Which in itself isn’t necessarily special, until you find out that they’ve been divorced for 28 years. She says her mom has bad knees and her step dad works out of town.

She went on to explain that her dad knew her mom couldn’t take care of the lawn herself, so he did it for her. Codie says that although her parents have been divorced for nearly 30 years, they still care about each other.

She says they respect each other because they brought children into the world together. Even though their circumstances have changed, they’re forever bonded by that.

“This is co-parenting. This is how lucky I am to have four parents who respect each other and know that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is showing your children how to treat people and how to love your family no matter how it came together,” said Codie.

Codie explained that her dad doesn’t actually live where her mom lives but was there on vacation, so not only did he offer Codie’s mom kindness, but he did the selfless act while on vacation.

Her dad says, however, that he’s not a saint. He just wants people to know that you don’t have to act like an angelic pastor on lent but that we should all choose kindness whenever we can.

He also says that he didn’t do it for recognition. He did it because when the two were going through their divorce they agreed to treat each other with respect and compassion because no matter how the marriage ended, they both loved each other very much at one point.

He says that love counts for something, and if they were going to raise their children to be good, kind people, they needed to be good kind people too.

Wow! What an example are these too! Be sure to share this amazing story with your family and friends. A lot of people could really use this kind of example.
