Firefighters aren’t just limited to fighting fires. These heroes do much more for the communities around them, including the tiniest of creatures that are in need of rescue.

Recently the firefighters from the Richburg Fire Rescue in South Carolina found a tiny little hummingbird outside of their fire station. The bird was lying tired and dehydrated on the pavement.

Crew members jumped into action by filling a bottle cap with water and stayed with the tiny creature until it had drank enough water that it was strong enough to stand up and fly away.

They posted the story on their Facebook page with a post that said, “You can teach almost anyone how to be a firefighter, medic, or just about anything imaginable,” said the post.

It went on to say, “What is virtually impossible to teach is compassion. We are fortunate that we have a tremendous group in our department that has passion and desire to help, regardless of the situation.”

They say this isn’t the first time their department has shown compassion like this and they doubt it will be the last. How amazing is it that these men would do something so special for one of God’s tiniest creations? Be sure to share this heartwarming story with your family and friends!
