We’ve all heard the story of Noah’s ark in which Noah used his ark to save the world’s animals during a massive flood. Now, a Tennessee truck driver is taking some notes from Noah and bringing his ark to the modern age!

Tony Alsup is a 51 year-old truck driver who is using a school bus as his ark to save pets from Hurricane Florence floods in South Carolina. So far, Alsup has saved 64 pets and brought them to the safety of Alabama in his bus. He has rescued 11 cats and 53 dogs, and he’s not done yet!

Once he gets the animals to safety, he hands them over to shelters that have room to care for them. The shelters that Alsup has gone to include the Humane Society, Dillon County Animal Shelter, Saint Frances Animal Center and others in South Carolina.

Inside his bus, Alsup has plenty of toys, water and food to keep the animals entertained. The seats have been ripped out of the bus to create more room for stacked up kennels.

“It’s so easy for people to adopt the small pets and the cuties and the cuddly,” Alsup said. “We take on the ones that deserve a chance even though they are big and a little ugly. But I love big dogs, and we find places for them.”

This isn’t the first time Alsup has played the role of Noah during a crisis. During Hurricane Harvey, he did the same thing to save animals in Texas!

Alsup dreams of buying his own shelter one day, and he would love to be able to purchase a boat so that he can rescue even more animals.

“Animals — especially shelter pets — they always have to take the back seat of the bus. But I’ll give them their own bus,” he said. “If I have to I’ll pay for all the fuel, or even a boat, to get these dogs out of there.”

God bless this man for going above and beyond to rescue animals in need! Find out more about what he’s doing in the video below!
