A historic home that is almost 160 years-old was being transported across the city of Plano, Texas when disaster struck on the highway as the house got stuck on a streetlight.

Known as the “Collinwood home,” the house was built in 1861 and was bought back in May by the Haggard family, who are direct descendants of the home’s original inhabitants. On Wednesday, the house was being transported from it’s original location to the Haggard Farm.

“Yes, it’s emotional to see something like this on the road being moved. It’s got to be emotional for anybody whether you’re family or not,” said Rutledge Haggard, a member of the family.

Luckily, the situation with the streetlight was resolved fairly quickly, and the historic house made it to it’s new home! Now, the Haggard family can begin restoring the home.

“My grandfather was one of five kids that was raised in this house,” said Clint Haggard, whose great, great grandfather lived in this house.

“My great great grandfather is kind of the first patriarch of the Haggards that first settled here and grew the land and farmed and were successful and had a big family, so his value system has kind of been carried down the generations to us,” Clint continued.

Clint explained that his family is hoping that their future generations can enjoy this house for centuries to come.

“It’s important to save history so that future generations know what we’ve gone through in the past to know where we’ve gotten to today,” Clint said. “You never really know until you get them on the road.”
