A Hawaii cat sanctuary that is home to 600 cats has become a popular tourist destination that is affectionately known as the “Fur Seasons.”

Kathy “Kat” Carroll opened the Lanai Cat Sanctuary back in 2001 when she moved to the island of Lanai and was horrified to find hundreds of homeless and starving cats roaming the island. Seventeen years later, these cats are living a much better life thanks to Carroll’s care for them at the sanctuary, where they are given regular meals and even massages!

The sanctuary has since become a major tourist attraction. It was recently visited by Wendy Louie, who absolutely loved it!

“All the cats are happy, like, you could tell,” she said. “They are so friendly. And you could tell they enjoy being here.”

Wendy Mendoza, who has visited the sanctuary twelve times, agreed with her.

“If I was a cat I’d be knocking on the door, like, ‘Hey, how do I get into this place?'” she said.

Keoni Vaughn serves as an executive director of the sanctuary, and he says that he loves his job.

“I’m a 45-year-old male that runs a 600-cat sanctuary. I don’t mind being labeled the crazy cat guy!” he said.

The sanctuary is only becoming a bigger and bigger tourist attraction. In 2017 alone, over 10,000 people visited the sanctuary.

“People from all over the world, of all ages come here,” Vaughn said. “And it’s really, really nice to see their smiles on their face. And it’s really great that all these cats are getting the attention.”

Visitors to the sanctuary can even adopt the cats if they get particularly attached to them! Find out more about this sanctuary in the video below!
