Plenty of people enjoy having a glass of wine with their dinner, but you might want to move that glass of wine to bedtime instead if you’re trying to drop a few pounds.

A 2015 study shows that a glass of wine at bedtime can help you slim down due to a compound in wine called resveratrol. This substance can turn white fat cells into beige fat cells which are easier to burn off than white fat.

In the study, mice that were given resveratrol gained less weight than those who didn’t take the compound, despite eating the same fattening diet. Another study found that drinking a glass of wine at night could keep you from having a late night snack, which can also help weight loss.

Some experts, however, say that drinking wine at bedtime can be disruptive to your sleep. While you my fall asleep easier, you will likely end up waking up more frequently throughout the night.

Fortunately, you should be okay if you only drink one glass. Sleep typically only gets disrupted if your blood alcohol level is above 0.04 and that takes more than one drink for most people.

If you end up drinking more than you should before bed, you can eat something to lower your blood alcohol content, and if you’re not into drinking wine before bed there are other options.

Snacking on blueberries, strawberries, and grapes may have the same affect because they are all natural sources of resveratrol. Be sure to share this news with your family and friends.
