Joel Alsup and Lindsey Wilkerson just got married 25 years after they met as children while they each fought cancer at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Lindsey was 10 years-old when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, while Joel was only 7 when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

“When I met this guy, when I was in treatment, I admired him,” Lindsey said of Joel. “I looked up to him, I thought he was such an incredible person. We grew in our friendship over the years.”

Lindsey and Joel lost touch when they each went away to college, but they both ended up working at St. Jude’s as adults. They bumped into each other on Lindsey’s first day on the job, and she recognized Joel immediately.

“I was finally brave enough to tell her that I liked her, not only that but that I loved her,” said Joel, now 38. “Luckily she felt the same way.”

The couple married earlier this month at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

“I could have never fathomed that I’d be sitting here today, at his side, as his wife, having the privilege to be married on the grounds of the place that saved our lives,” said Lindsey, now 37.

The Alsups were surrounded by other cancer survivors during their ceremony, and they are hoping that their story will show others that they can overcome whatever obstacles life throws at them!

We wish the Joel and Lindsey the best of luck in their life together! Find out more about their story in the video below!
