Elephants are known for being gentle giants. They are caring and can be very emotional. So when a baby elephant rushed to save her human from drowning it wasn’t much of a surprise.

The baby elephant, named Kham Lha, lives at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She was out on a stroll with her mom when she saw what she thought was her beloved human drowning.

She immediately rushed into the river to help her best friend, Darrick Thompson, who is the co-founder of the foundation. Darrick wasn’t actually drowning, but was calling to her to come and play with him.

Instead, the little elephant thought he was shouting for help and immediately jumped in to rescue him. She rushed into the water and offered Darrick her trunk and ushers him back to the river bank. Kham Lha doesn’t let go of him until she’s certain he’s safe.

Darrick helped rescue Kham Lha and her mother, Bai Teoy in 2015 and he has had a huge place in the baby’s heart since. He spent time with her to help her heal after her rescue and the two have formed a strong bond. She considers him part of her herd.

You can see in the video below just how much Kham Lha cares for Darrick. Check out her adorable rescue and be sure to share it with your family and friends.
