For one former Arizona waitress, her gesture might have seemed like something that she simply needed to do. For the owner of the restaurant, it meant so much more than she could have imagined.

Carlotta Flores has owned El Charro restaurant in Tucson for years. Last week, she got an unexpected letter in the mail from an anonymous woman who says she worked at the restaurant in the 1990’s.

The letter was an apology to Carlotta and her family. The waitress explained that she pocketed cash that wasn’t hers at the end of her shifts, and she’s never been able to forgive herself for the behavior she says wasn’t like her.

Included in the card of apology was $1,000 in cash that is payment, plus some interest, for the money that she stole. “Thankfully I was a terrible waitress and you all fired me before it could amount to more than a few hundred dollars,” said the waitress.

It added: 'I grew up in the church, I knew better. I hadn't stolen a dime before then, nor have I since. Thankfully, I was a terrible waitress and you all fired me before it could amount to more than a few hundred dollars total'

Carlotta says the gesture came at the perfect time to help restore her faith in humanity. She had gotten her purse stolen that same week and the gesture really helped her feel better about things.

“I don’t know where she’s at, or who she is, but I will tell you one thing,” said Carlotta. “I hope that she’s read or has seen what an impact this has made not only on me, my family, my business, but where it will go in the future so I hope she keeps looking to see what we’re doing with it.”
