More and more people are wrapping their car key fobs in tin foil, and it is at the urging of local police. If your police department hasn’t encouraged you to do this yet, then you’re putting yourself at risk.

A new scam is targeting drivers and it can put the drivers in danger. Cars are something that you want to protect because they cost thousands of dollars to purchase and maintain.

We use them to get to and from work, haul our kids to school and practices, and complete our errands. Unless you prefer walking, the bus, or a taxi, you need a car to get anywhere.

People spend time making sure their cars are secure. We purchase alarms and have services such as Onstar that can find your car if it’s been stolen.

Now, however, hackers have found a way to take their illegal activities offline and onto the road. Police have started warning people that wrapping their key fobs in aluminum foil can be one way to protect yourself from this scam.

Car manufacturers are making cars increasingly complex, and they have installed computer systems into most vehicles. A hacker can use this computer system to break into your vehicle.

If someone wants to hack into your vehicle, the easiest way to do it is through your key fob. While this may seem scary, the fix is old fashioned, cheap, and almost fail proof.

Simply wrap your key fob in aluminum foil. You know it’s working when it won’t unlock your car door with the aluminum foil around it. Although it’s not ideal, it is the most simple way to take care of the problem until car manufacturers fix the problem themselves.

Be sure to share this tip with your family and friends so they can protect themselves too.
