Shane Drossard is a homeless man who is being hailed as a hero after he risked his life to rescue a woman who was trying to commit suicide.

Drossard was recently camping out under the Washington Avenue Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota when he heard a loud splash at around 2am. When he heard a woman’s voice, he realized that the 35 year-old female had attempted suicide by jumping off the bridge. Though the woman survived the fall, she found herself caught in the current of the river.

Without hesitating, Drossard dove into the water and grabbed the woman’s hand. He then used his other hand to grab hold of the wall, which he used to anchor them both so that they would not be swept away. As they waited for help, Drossard told the woman that she is beautiful and has a lot to live for. He also said that he was there for her and that he would never let go of her hand.

An emergency crew finally arrived at the scene and rushed the woman to the hospital. Though firefighters offered Drossard shelter for the night, he humbly declined and instead went back to his camp under the bridge.

When asked by reporters why he risked his life to save the woman, Drossard became emotional and replied, “I just wanted to do something good for somebody.”
