Minister John R. Ramsey shared his story about an encounter he had with a  young boy that he says he will never forget. He says that every Sunday a person has provided him with a rose boutonniere to pin to his suit lapel every Sunday.

He says he never really gave much thought to it because it had been happening for so many years. He says it was a nice gesture that he appreciated, but it had become a bit of a routine.

One Sunday, however, what started out as an ordinary day became very special. After services were over, a little boy approached him and asked what he was going to do with the flower.

He then told him that if he was just going to throw it away, he’d like to have it. John says he smiled at the lad and gave him the flower. Then he asked him what he was going to do with it.

The little boy smiled and informed him that he was going to give it to his grandma. He explained that his mom and dad got divorced last year. To begin with, he lived with his mom, but when she got remarried, she decided he needed to go live with his dad.

He continued and said that he lived with his father for a while, but then his father decided he couldn’t stay there anymore and sent him to live with his grandmother.

“She is so good to me. She cooks for me and takes care of me,” said the little boy. “She has been so good to me that I want to give that pretty flower to her for loving me.”

John says when the little boy was finished he could barely speak. He told the little boy that it was the nicest thing he had ever heard, but explained that he couldn’t have the flower. “It isn’t enough. If you’ll look in front of the pulpit, you’ll see a big bouquet of flowers. Please take those flowers to your granny because she deserves the best,” he replied.

The boy then replied something that John says he’ll always treasure. The boy said, “What a wonderful day! I asked for one flower, but got a beautiful bouquet!”

What a heartwarming story. Aren’t grandmothers just the best? Be sure to share this story with your family and friends. It’s sure to touch their hearts too.
