Nick Tate is a 20 year-old young man who works as a cashier at a Walmart in Newcastle, Oklahoma. At the store, Nick is known for being one of the friendliest employees, as he always takes the time to talk to customers and show compassion for those in need.

Nick was recently working his normal shift on a busy Friday when a foster mother came in with her two small girls and a baby. Her two toddlers were becoming unruly, and the mother struggled to control them as she waited in line. As the girls continued to misbehave, the line behind them got longer, and the mother got even more stressed out, as she could feel the judgmental stares of strangers.

When she finally reached Nick’s register, he looked at her kindly and said, “One of those days?”

The frantic foster mother apologized as if she had done something wrong and pulled out her WIC card, which provides assistance for low-income families with children.

“I’ve never used WIC before,” she said to Nick. “I don’t know how it’s going to go.”

The mother did not want to hold up the line any longer, so she was at a loss as to what to do. Nick tried to run the card several times before he realized it was not working. That’s when he did something that caused the stressed out foster mother to break down in tears. She never expected him to do something this kind!
