Firefighters have to be prepared for anything when they show up for work, as they never know what situations they will find themselves in. While firefighters have seen quite a lot of unusual things, it’s safe to say that these London firefighters had never been in a situation quite like this one!

On Monday, firefighters with the London Fire Brigade were called to a neighborhood where a “potty-mouthed” parrot had flown onto a neighbor’s roof. They responded to a Edmonton neighborhood after they were called about a Macaw parrot named Jessie, who had flown the coop and spent three days on a neighbor’s roof despite attempts from the bird’s owner and the RSPCA to rescue her.

The firefighters said that Jessie’s owner was afraid that the bird was injured.

“Our crew manager was the willing volunteer who went up the ladder to try and bring Jessie down. We were told that to bond with the parrot, you have to tell her ‘I love you,’ which is exactly what the crew manager did,” firefighter Chris Swallow said. “While Jessie responded ‘I love you’ back, we then discovered that she had a bit of a foul mouth and kept swearing, much to our amusement. Jessie also speaks Turkish and Greek, so we tried telling her to ‘come’ in both those languages too.”

The firefighters figured out that Jessie was not an injured parrot when she easily flew to another home’s roof. They were eventually able to rescue the parrot and return her to the owner. The brigade later tweeted out a video of Jessie “thanking” the firefighters for saving her.
