Dolly Parton is beloved by millions of fans as a country music legend. While everyone knows about Dolly’s career in music and acting, many are not aware of the huge role she has been playing behind the scenes in the world of children’s literacy.

The Library of Congress just honored Dolly after her child reading program donated it’s 100 millionth book to children. Dolly started her “Imagination Library” twenty years ago, saying that her goal was to give books to kids all over the globe.

“Of all the things I’ve done in my life, and it’s been a lot ’cause I’ve been around a long time, this is one of the most precious things and the proudest I am of any program,” Dolly told the audience when she was honored.

Dolly went on to both read and sing to the audience, which was made up of both children and adults, from the children‘s book created from her song, “A Coat of Many Colors.” The touching story is about a child who cherishes a coat that her mother quilted out of rags.

The children who are gifted the books often do not even know that Dolly is famous, as they simply know her as “The Book Lady.” Dolly is so humble that she does not make her charity about herself at all, instead choosing to make it about the children!

I didn’t think it was possible to fall in love with Dolly Parton any more, but I think I just did!
