Do you know what this is? Have you ever used one? Some of us might remember them or even the truck that delivered the things that went in it. My grandma always had one.

Some of us probably remember the coal truck delivering a big pile of coal and keeping it somewhere in the house or in a storage shed outside. My grandma kept hers in a wooden bin.

The picture is of a coal bucket, sometimes called a coal scuttle. It was a bucket-like container that held a small, intermediate supply of coal conveniently next to an indoor coal-fired stove or heater.

They were usually made of metal and most had an open, slanted top that made it easier to pour the coals onto the fire. Now a days we use them as decoration instead for the purpose of chores.

What do you think? Do you remember them now and have you ever used one? Share this story with your family and friends and see if they remember what it is.
