If you are a fan of Kellogg’s Honey Smacks cereal, you might want to rethink your breakfast, at least for a while. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently expanded a recall of the popular breakfast cereal.

The CDC says at least 100 salmonella infections in 33 states have now been linked to Honey Smacks cereal and they believe the cereal poses a significant risk of salmonella. “Do not eat this cereal,” the agency said.

A statement from the CDC last Thursday advised consumers not to eat any of the cereal regardless of the package size or best by date. “Even if some of the cereal has been eaten and no one got sick, throw the rest of it away or return it for a refund,” the warning said.

The sickness from the salmonella contaminated cereal began in march and the CDC believes there may be additional cases than the ones that have been reported so far. The recall was issued on June 14.

Officials say it can take two to four weeks before the sickness is reported to the CDC. People infected with the sickness often have symptoms of diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramping with 12 to 72 hours of being infected. In some cases it can result in death.

Two states have been added to the outbreak list including Florida and Colorado and other states may soon be added as well.

Check out the video below about the outbreak and be sure to share it with your family and friends so they are aware of the danger that could be lurking in their kitchen.
