Jim McIngvale, also known as ‘Mattress Mack’, is a well-known businessman and philanthropist. He’s the magnetic owner of Gallery Furniture in Houston, Texas who won the hearts of Houstonians and people nationwide during Hurricane Harvey. He provided shelter and meals at his business for displaced flood victims and first responders during the flood of the century.

Most recently, Mattress Mack opened the doors of his store to host a very special night for some very important guests. He held a sensory-free social event with the help of the organization Success on the Spectrum for children with autism and their siblings.

“We just want them to experience what prom is about,” said Daisy Rios, Success on the Spectrum director. The prom featured a DJ playing kid-friendly, low-volume music, a bubble machine, balloons, games, dancing, and a calming station for children who needed a quiet place to rest.

Therapists from Success on the Spectrum led the crowd through fun activities. Although Mattress Mack said he wasn’t sure if he would dance himself, he said he was sure everyone would have a great time.

Mattress Mack’s daughter suffers from OCD, so helping children who suffer from issues like his daughter is something he is passionate about. “We’re here to love on these kids and let them know they’re special like very human being on the planet is special.”
