Men and women sacrifice their lives every day in the armed forces to protect the public, but it isn’t always humans that put their lives on the line. Sometimes the heroes that are part of these special forces are of the canine variety.

Dogs, such as Belgian Malinois, go through intense training to prepare them for duty in the field. The perform tasks and obey commands under extreme pressure and their temperaments have to be perfect. These dogs are known for their intelligence, stealth, and determination.

For one team of six British SAS, it was one of these dogs that saved their lives when they were on patrol in Northern Syria. They started out in vehicles, but ended up on foot. They weren’t aware that they had been set up and were under attack.

Surrounded with nowhere to run, the dog’s handler removed his muzzle and directed him to go into the building where the shots seemed to be coming from. Without hesitation the dog ran into the building and within seconds, screaming could be heard from inside.

The firing stopped and the soldiers went into the building. One of the gunmen was on the floor and had bled to death after being attacked in the throat. More blood led to the back of the building where two additional men were found dead.

All in all, the Malinois had killed three attackers and any remaining men had fled. It is easy to see that this dog clearly saved the lives of the soldiers he was working with. Without him, they wouldn’t be alive today to tell the amazing story.

Share this heroic story with your family and friends. We should all respect this dog and the work he is doing.
