It seems that most everyone in the British royal family has at least one nickname. Any guesses on who “Gary” is? Hint: it’s probably the person you would least expect!
Believe it or not, one of Queen Elizabeth’s nicknames is “Gary!” She got this nickname when her grandson Prince William was too little to pronounce “Granny,” so he would say “Gary” instead! In one fun story, staffers at Buckingham Palace were confused when William called for “Gary” until the Queen herself finally came over and said, “I’m Gary. He hasn’t learned to say granny yet.”
Meghan Markle has only been in the British royal family officially for two months, but she already has a nickname from Prince Charles! Her new father-in-law reportedly calls her “Tungsten” after the metal because of her “tough and unbending” nature.
Prince William and Kate Middleton lovingly call each other “darling” and babe.” Meanwhile, Prince Harry has been nicknamed “Spike” for much of his life, and he’s been rumored to have a Facebook account under the name “Spike Wells.” He has sometimes used this name to avoid media attention when trying to travel incognito. Harry has also reportedly been nicknamed “Hazza” by his new wife Meghan’s friends.
