There will be a new member to the Bush family starting very soon. Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush is getting a yellow Labrador retriever named Sully who will be his companion and loyal service dog.

The 94-year-old Texas resident got acquainted with his new service dog last week at the Bush compound in Maine. Bush’s aid, Evan Sisley, told the press that the pair got along very well. Sully will be able to open doors, pick up items, and call for help if needed.

The former president lost his wife earlier this year and has been struggling with a variety of his own health issues for the past several months. Having a service dog as a companion and helper will definitely be of great assistance for him.

Sully was trained by the organization America’s VetDogs which is a non-profit that deals with service dogs of this nature. Labrador retrievers are a favored breed for disability assistance especially to assist those with autism and the blind.

They are also great sport and hunting dogs and have assisted law enforcement agencies with screening and detection work. Bush is a known dog lover and with Sully’s service training, the pair should be well-suited to one another.

After meeting the former president, Sully seems to be fitting in quite nicely with the political who’s who. He even has his own Instagram page already. It sounds like this may be the perfect friend and assistant that George H.W. Bush needs.

Be sure to share this heartwarming story with your friends and wish the former president well.
