If you’re anything like me, you love the 2002 movie Sweet Home Alabama, which stars Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas. The film is considered to be one of the most beloved romantic comedies of the new millennium, which is why so many fans are excited after both the movie’s stars indicated that they would love to film a sequel!

“I think it would be so fascinating and obviously I don’t know where it would go, but I think it would be so fascinating to see where these two characters and the children and where everyone ended up,” Lucas said in a recent interview. “Are they still together? Are they divorced? Do they want to be back together? I mean, there’s so many different ideas that I think, you know, we all know life is long and complex and they had an interesting relationship to begin with, the two characters.”

Witherspoon has always said that she would be up to doing a sequel for Sweet Home Alabama.

“We are not making a sequel that I know of, but if Disney wants to make a sequel they can just call me. I would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2,” she said two years ago.

With both the stars onboard, let’s get this thing off the ground, Disney!

In the original movie, Witherspoon stars as a fashion designer named Melanie who finds herself unable to secure a divorce from her “redneck” husband, who is played by Lucas. After she becomes engaged to the most eligible bachelor in New York City, Melanie has to return home to Alabama to finally get her ex-husband to sign their divorce papers.

Both Witherspoon and Lucas have continued to have success in the entertainment industry. Witherspoon went on to win an Academy Award for her work in Walk The Line and she recently announced plans to star in Legally Blonde 3. Meanwhile, Lucas has found success in film, TV and theater, and is currently starring in The Parisian Woman on Broadway.
