Way is a stray dog that has managed to survive on the streets of Buenos Aires, Argentina, for years. The dog had just given birth to her own litter of puppies and was struggling to take care of her own babies when she found someone else that needed help.

She had plenty of mouths to feed and scoured the streets for any food that she could find. It was winter in Argentina which meant she had to hurry. While scrounging around the streets she found another baby that had been abandoned by its mother, but it wasn’t a puppy.

Way had found a newborn human baby, but that didn’t keep her maternal instincts from kicking in. She knew the baby needed warmth and so she carried her baby puppies one by one to surround the abandoned baby. Then she wrapped her body around the little group to provide additional warmth.

The next morning a resident named Alejandria Griffin heard the cries of a newborn outside. When she went outside she couldn’t believe what she found. A stray dog had taken in the baby as her own. Alejandria immediately called the police for help.

The baby, now named Santino, was taken to the emergency room for medical attention. The doctors believe that if it weren’t for the dog’s heroic actions, the baby wouldn’t have survived. Way is now being hailed a hero.

Santino was surprisingly in good shape for everything that he had been through. Police were eventually able to track down the baby’s mother, a 33-year-old woman, who already had eight other children.

The mother was arrested and charged with abandoning her newborn baby. Way was taken to a local animal shelter along with her babies where she would be cared for so she and her puppies could find a forever home.
