Kids like to be stylish and keep up with the trends. They will beg their parents to buy a particular piece of clothing or shoes for them and if it’s not too expensive parents will typically give in. That’s what happened with one New York mother who says caving in to her son’s pleading was what led to his injuries.

Light up sneakers were the accessory that her son was begging for, but she’s now speaking up about the shoes that left her nine-year-old son with second-degree burns on his feet. She says he’s now afraid to wear shoes.

Sherry Foster shared photos of her son’s feet on social media and says he was wearing Skechers S-Light sneakers when they began leaking corrosive fluid onto his feet. He complained of pain and struggled to move in the shoes.

Her son, Peyton, wasn’t able to walk, run, or even go swimming because the activity would cause further irritation to his feet. They had to carry him.

Apparently his shoes had gotten wet during the day while at school which caused them to release the chemical that burned the bottom of his feet. He didn’t complain to the teacher but told his parents the next day.

Sherry says she was shocked that shoes made for kids aren’t safe to wear in all weather conditions. She says she had no idea something like this could happen. She says if parents buy these shoes for their kids she recommends that they not let them get wet.

Skechers reached out to Sherry and offered a free replacement, but she says she’s considering legal action against the company for not providing adequate warning that the product could be dangerous in certain conditions.

How scary! I know my kids used to wear light up shoes and we never thought twice about it. Be sure to share this with your family and friends so they can take precautions to protect their kids.
