When an airplane recently landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina, passengers were puzzled when they were asked to remain seated. As they waited to be allowed to stand, a woman named Tara was escorted off the plane alone.

Passenger Lisa West Williams had a direct view of what happened next from her seat, and the scene nearly brought her to tears. Looking out the window, Lisa saw a coffin with an American flag wrapped over it being taken out of the baggage area of the aircraft.

It was then that Lisa realized that Tara was a war widow.

Quietly taking out her phone, Lisa filmed as Tara placed her hand on the coffin and leaned against it. After a few seconds, Tara’s family gathered around her to comfort the grieving widow.

Tara’s husband Green Beret Shawn Thomas was killed in a vehicle accident in Africa while serving his eighth deployment on February 2, 2017. She was left behind to raise their four children herself.

Lisa got Tara’s blessing before sharing the video on Facebook, and it has since gone viral, being viewed over 10 million times.

“It was an honor to fly home with this PATRIOT!” Lisa wrote on Facebook. “God bless his wife and family. There was not a dry eye around me.”

Tara hopes that the video will help people understand the extreme sacrifices members of the military and their families make every day for this country.
