Kirsty Green was recently grocery shopping with her 14-month-old son, Brandon Emery, in Bude, England when her day took a surprising turn.

All was going well until Kirsty was unloading her groceries into the trunk.

“So I opened the car and the boot [trunk] and put Brandon in the car, placed my keys down in the boot and unloaded the shopping,” Kirsty said. “Not having a second thought about the keys I closed the boot and could see that Brandon had climbed into the front of the car and was happily playing with the steering wheel.”

Brandon started to giggle as he hit the car’s “Lock” button.

As firefighters rushed to the scene, Brandon could not stop giggling as he watched them try to rescue him. When “Brandon decided to put [a coin] in his mouth,” the firefighters stopped trying to pry the doors open and smashed the window to get him out.

“Thank you to the amazing guys who rescued my cheeky monkey after locking himself in the car today at Bude Lidl!! He was clearly traumatised by the whole ordeal,” Kirsty wrote on Facebook.

This mother clearly has one very cheeky little baby on her hands! Given all the hot car incidents that have been in the news lately, this definitely could have taken a tragic turn. We’re glad to see that Brandon’s story had a happy ending, and that this little guy was able to keep a smile on his face throughout this incident!
