Jim Mininni had been battling cancer for eight years before he ended up on life-support in the intensive care unit at Kingston General Hospital. The very next day, his wife Cindy had a heart attack and was also placed on life support.

Unfortunately, the husband and wife were placed in two different hospitals making it difficult for their sons to see them. “Me and my brother don’t drive, so going between Kingston and Brockville was really rough,” explained their son Chris.

The brothers tried to get their mother transferred to Kingston, but didn’t have much luck. Eventually, though, Jim’s doctor was able to make it happen. “I should’ve realized it wasn’t a good sign, but I was so appreciative of what he did,” said Chris.

Jim ended up pulling out his breathing tube during the night, and because he had orders not to resuscitate him, the tube was not replaced. Doctors told the brothers that there wasn’t anything else they could do for their father.

“We told him that mom was now here,” Chris said. “He started freaking out. But when we told him he wasn’t going to make it, he got out a pen and paper and tried to write because he wasn’t able to speak.” The word Jim wrote….”Mom.”

The hospital then did something they had never done before. They took two patients, one on life-support, and put them in the same room. “It was very risky, but they did it for them,” said Chris. “He started bawling and saying thank you by doing the praying motion.”

Jim was able to clasp his wife’s hand while she was sedated and Chris decided to snap a photo of his parents since that was likely to be one of their last moments together on earth. “The reason I took it was so that when she came off life-support, she could see that Dad was right there with her,” said Chris. “If there’s one definition of my dad, it’s that he was a proud husband and proud dad.”

When Cindy woke up a few days later she asked if her husband had passed. Although he had, she was comforted knowing that she had been with him one last time before he passed away. They had been married for 24 years and had been nearly inseparable.

Chris ended up posting the final photo of his parents on Reddit where many people left comments that brought joy to his mother. “I want people to see how much love they had for each other,” said Chris. “My parents got to be together until the end. We should all be so lucky.”

What an amazing story of love! If you agree, please share this story with your friends.
