Gabby Yesis is a three-year-old from Blasdell, New York, who was helping her mother, Eileen, set up a garage sale at their home when she saw a police officer and decided to give him her stuffed Elmo. The reason for her kind action is adorable.

Eileen says she told Gabby she could give the police man her Elmo toy, but asked her why she wanted to give it to him. Gabby replied, “The policeman works all alone. He needs a friend.” The mother and daughter waited to see the policeman drive by, but he didn’t stop.

Gabby was worried about him working all alone, so on Monday, she and her mother went looking for him. They stopped by the fire department and gave them a red line flag, who rewarded Gabby with some treats and let her sit in the fire truck.

Next, they went to the police station. They were lucky enough to find the same police officer that Gabby had spotted at the garage sale. Gabby raised her arms to the police man and said, “I want you to have my Elmo so you don’t work alone.”

Gabby also gave him a blue line flag. The officer thanked her for her gift and gave her a high five. The Blasdell police department took to their Facebook page to thank the little girl. “Blasdell Police and Fire Departments thank Gabby, a three-year-old village resident who gave the thin blue and red line flags and Elmo to the departments. We thank Gabby and her family for the support and nice gesture.”

A police officer stopped by Gabby’s house on Tuesday while he and Elmo were out making a donut run, but unfortunately Gabby wasn’t home. Her teenage sister was able to snap a few pics to show her little sister and Elmo obviously enjoyed his trip.

On June 13, Eileen received a call asking if Gabby would be offended if the police department returned Elmo. He had completed his police training and was now a uniformed officer. Later that evening the officer that Gabby gave Elmo to, along with the Mayor of Blasdell, Rob Hefner, came to Gabby’s house.

They thanked her for being kind to the police department, and returned Officer Elmo to her. They also gave her Elmo’s certificate of training and a balloon bouquet. “She was so excited,” says Eileen. “They stayed and visited for a while, posed for pictures, and watched her play in the yard.

Eileen posted on her Facebook wall to thank the officers, “A huge thank you on behalf of our family to the Blasdell Police Department and the Mayor of Blasdell for taking time out of their evening tonight to bring Gabby back the Elmo she gifted to them. Elmo has completed Police Academy and is now in full uniform. The officer explained that Elmo wanted to come home and keep Gabby safe.”
