Auditioning for a huge show like “America’s Got Talent” is stressful for everyone, but it was especially scary for Rochester, New York native Daniel Emmet when his audition took an unexpected turn.

Describing himself as a classical crossover singer, Daniel told the judges that he would be performing an original song. As he began to sing, it quickly became clear that he is very talented.

Daniel performed his original song entirely in Italian, and the audience was immediately won over by the twenty-five year-old performer. One audience member, however, was not having any of it, and it was his opinion that mattered the most.

Judge Simon Cowell watched Daniel sing with seeming disinterest, and halfway through the performance, he stopped him. Simon did not like his choice of song, and asked him to sing a backup piece. When the singer said he did not prepare one, Simon got very annoyed.

“You can’t come out on a show like this and say you haven’t got a second song,” Simon admonished. “That’s what live auditions are all about. You have a very good voice, but normally it’s about connecting with the song. I always want people who have talent to do well, but just singing that song — that’s not enough.”

Daniel looked devastated, thinking his dreams of stardom were over, but Simon was not finished with him yet.

After conferring with a producer, Simon came up with a second song that was also in Italian, and he told Daniel he had one hour to learn it and come back to audition for them again.

Daniel managed to pull himself together, learn the song, and return an hour later.

“Honestly, if you pull this off right now I will be so impressed with you,” said judge Heidi Klum.
