The two day long saga of a raccoon that climbed the side of a 25-story Minnesota building came to an end on Wednesday. But it’s not the ending that you might have feared. The raccoon is safe and sound.

The raccoon, dubbed the MPR raccoon after being spotted by Minnesota Public Radio workers, was first spotted trapped in a niche over the first floor of the Town Square building in St. Paul. Workers attempted to rescue the animal by leaning a 20-foot length of lumber against the building, but the raccoon wouldn’t accept the offer.

The animal fled to the roof of the Town Square building and then made its way onto the neighboring UBS Tower. The raccoon captured social media users as people began watching its ascent up one of the tallest buildings in town.

Mayor Melvin Carter said city officials were working on a plan to rescue the animal. The raccoon was spotted outside a window on the 23rd floor taking a nap outside the Paige Donnelly Law Firm. When nightfall came, the raccoon started to climb down, but then reversed its path.

Finally the raccoon made it to the roof of the UBS Tower where animal control had placed live traps. It was confirmed Wednesday morning that the traps had succeeded in capturing the raccoon.
