Anyone who has ever served in the military or is close to someone who has knows that it is often a thankless job. Despite all the sacrifices they make for their country, soldiers sadly often do not get the respect that they deserve.

That’s why it’s always refreshing to see a story in which civilians show their love for the members of the military who make huge sacrifices for them!

Jessica Titus took to Facebook to recount how she was recently boarding a plane when she noticed a female Army soldier was walking in front of her. The soldier was heading to the back of the plane for what likely would have been an uncomfortable journey in economy class.

Upon seeing the soldier, a man in first class stood up and told her, “Sorry, ma’am, I’m in your seat.”

Confused, the soldier replied, “What? No—I’m in 31B.”

Jessica wrote that the man proceeded to walk back to economy class and sit in the soldier’s cramped middle seat, leaving the soldier to sit in his spacious first class seat! He didn’t even wait for the soldier to thank him!

Jessica was so touched by what the man did that she scribbled a note onto a piece of loose leaf paper and sent it to his seat along with a $10 bill.

The man ended up refusing the money Jessica sent him, not wanting to be rewarded financially for simply giving thanks to a soldier. Jessica’s post has since gone viral and touched the hearts of people all over the world.

“Respect is never wasted….lead by example….live by good deeds… love unconditionally and never be afraid to step aside to honor others. Lessons are taught through actions not just words and none of us are too old to learn,” one social media user wrote.
