The Humane Society in Pasadena, California, had an unexpected, and very unusual, arrival last week when a good samaritan brought in a 29-pound cat that the staff at the shelter nicknamed Chubbs.

The 10-year-old Himalayan mix was found taking an afternoon stroll down a busy street when the good samaritan saw him and picked him up. The Pasadena Humane Society said he was in need of grooming, but otherwise looked well cared for.

They removed the mats that were located down his back and gave him an overall checkup. Other than being overweight, Chubbs was friendly, healthy, and obviously well-fed. They said the way he looked and acted led them to believe he wasn’t a feral cat and was used to being around people.

Chubbs wasn’t microchipped, so the humane society took to social media to try to find his owners. Because Chubbs was so big, he got to take refuge in one of the staff office spaces because he was too big to rest comfortably inside of a normal kennel.

Several people came forward claiming to be Chubbs owner, but after conducting research into the claims, all were discovered to be false. This resulted in a delay for Chubb’s adoption date. Chubbs was put up for adoption, and after a thorough vetting process, found his new home yesterday.

According to James Chisum, a rep for the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, cats can have the same kinds of obesity-related health conditions as people do, so it is important that Chubbs be with a family that will love him and help him lose weight.

The staff at the humane society started Chubbs on a diet to help start his weight loss and they believe the family that adopted Chubbs will continue to keep him trending in the right directions.

Good luck Chubbs! Please share the story of this amazing cat with your friends and family. It’s not every day that we get to see a 29-pound feline!
