Photos of a lake in Michigan are going viral as people believe it looks exactly like the Caribbean Sea!
Torch Lake is a huge lake in Michigan that is known for it’s alluring turquoise waters making it look like the Caribbean. Waves on the lake can also reach over four feet high, making it perfect for surfing!
The lake was once a deep, fjord-like bay of ancient Lake Michigan. This all changed when a sand bar formed across the mouth of the bay on the lake’s northwest portion, creating an inland lake. The lake has a wide, sandy shallow region that runs parallel with the shore and then suddenly drops off steeply, creating the beautiful blue shades you see from the sky!
This lake can get a little crazy during the summers, and it has been dubbed “Midwest Mardi Gras” because of all the festivals that take place there. The photo below shows the Fourth of July party that was held there last year!
The lake has many famous residents who live on it, including singer Kid Rock, Detroit rapper Eminem, and filmmaker Michael Moore. The lake also does not freeze in the winter because it is so deep that it stores a lot of heat in its vast volume.
