Karden Devenish had spent his entire summer saving up the money he made mowing lawns and pulling weeds so that he could go on a big deep sea fishing trip with his uncles.

Karden, 13, had managed to save $80, which he stored in his billfold along with his fishing license. That’s why he was especially devastated when he lost his wallet one night while hanging out at an arcade with a friend.

Karden was so upset that his mother, Megan Thomas Devenish, took to Facebook to ask social media users for help in finding the wallet. Though she posted a description of the wallet and the timeline of the night Karden spent there, she acknowledged it was unlikely the wallet would ever be returned.

“We are chalking this up as a life lesson.. (a very expensive lesson, but a lesson no less) to ALWAYS be honest and turn In things that are not yours,” she wrote. “so others don’t have to feel like you do right now… and only take only what money you’re going to spend … No judgement and a whole lot of praise will be given… would like to show him a even better lesson… that there is good in the world!!”

Megan was stunned when she received a call from someone who works at the arcade who told her that the wallet had not been returned. Instead, something far more shocking had happened.

A complete stranger had showed up at the arcade with a note for Karden along with $120!

“Friend, Buy a new wallet, fishing licensing and have fun,” the note read. “I read what happened on Facebook, and had the same thing happen when I was younger. Good luck. PS – If your wallet was returned, pay it forward with this.”

Even though Karden’s wallet was gone, his family’s faith in humanity had been restored!

“Someone we don’t know and that had seen this post took the time and their hard earned money to drop off $120 and a note that he can now buy a new wallet and replace his fishing license and the money he lost,” Megan wrote in a follow up on Facebook. “I’m speechless and have tears streaming down my face… we live in an amazing community… this is truly a lesson we will never forget…we will pay it forward. Thank you, thank you whomever you are!!”

This serves as an amazing reminder of what can happen when we pay it forward!
